Cleveland Institute of Art: Class of 2009 (5 year program graduate)

Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree: Technology Integrated Media Environments-Digital Arts.

Skills

  • Highly skilled in both high and low poly modeling methods for props, and both interior and exterior environments.

  • Knowledgeable of both hard surface and organic modeling pipelines.

  • Excellent understanding of UV mapping techniques and best practices.

  • Thorough grasp of texture painting, procedural generation, and application for unique meshes, tileable textures, trim sheets and atlases. Able to create, and program custom PBR shaders for both prerendered and real-time graphics, including both VR and AR applications.

Lecturer in  Game Design                                                               The Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland OH. August 2015-July 2016, January 2021-Present  

    A full-time member of  CIA's Game Design department. Courses taught include 3D modeling, texturing, and lighting for real-time gaming, level design, and 2D/3D compositing. Provided, leadership, guidance, and advice to students during joint game media production course with Case Western Reserve University. Advise senior Game Design BFA candidates during the development, and production of their thesis projects, as well as serve on BFA thesis panels during the candidate's defense.

        Work as the lead environment artist / world builder on the indie MMORPG "Monsters and Memories". Responsibilities include creating structural geometry, textures, materials, zone block-outs, navigation mesh baking, animations, vfx, and database entries for doors, lifts, traps, teleporters and npcs.

        Works closely with other team members on may aspects of the game including the game's aesthetic, and design.

        Created an environment art stream for the game, as part of the team's marketing/community interaction strategy.

         Responsible for look development, and planning the 3D modeling and animation pipelines based on a previously established 2D illustration style.     Worked on a 3D game titled "Mood Mission" that was designed for children ages 8-12. The game is designed as an adventure or quest that provides both an enjoyable (FUN!) experience coupled with an optional therapeutic experience aimed at giving children tools to deal with anxiety and depression (facing your fears, relaxation techniques, and discovering, validating, and adapting negative thoughts)

    Responsibilities as the team's primary artist and level designer included creating 3D models and textures, additional animations as needed, as well as designing, laying out, and lighting the game's levels. In addition to working on the game's art, assisted in designing game play mechanics, and assisted with writing the story and creating quests.

      Taught technology and engineering based summer camps for kids ages 7-15. The week-long camps topics ranged from 2D or 3D game design / programming,  robotics, animation, and more.

      Instructed high school students in a 2 week course that covered the basic concept and mechanics used in game design. Students then learned the basic tools and methods used in level designby creating a board game. Afterwards the students learn how to create a 2D platformer using Unreal Engine 4. The students learn how to create, animate and import sprites sheets into the engine and program all of their game mechanics using Unreal visual scripting language “blueprints’.

      Assisted the production coordinator during the filming of the major motion picture “Draft Day”. Responsibilities included checking in mail; transporting packages, equipment, and props to and from set; printing and collating daily sides and script drafts for cast and crew; various errands for the production staff and actors.

Digital Game Design Coordinating Instructor                                                      Hocking College, Nelsonville OH. September 2010-May 2013


      Head of the Digital Game Design department at Hocking Technical College. Was in charge of the curriculum transition from Quarters to Semesters for the department. Created all relevant documents according to the requirements of the state accreditor in a timely and accurate manner. Acted as the academic advisor for all of the game design students, meeting with them quarterly to review grades and schedule upcoming courses. Helped with recruitment for the program during various programs and open houses. Taught many courses ranging from 2D digital foundations to 3D modeling, animation, and level design using the UDK engine.

    Helped design a 2D monster and modelled  a 3D version of the design.  Cleaned up CAD files of the toy blocks provided by the client.  Created and applied materials before rendering images to be used for marketing.
